English Wikipedia: Khertvisi fortress is one of the oldest fortresses in Georgia and was functional throughout the Georgian feudal period. It is situated in Southern Georgia, in Meskheti region. The fortress was first build in the 2nd century BC. The church was built in 985, and the present walls build in 1354. As the legend says, Khertvisi was destroyed by Alexander the Great. In the 10th-11th centuries it was the center of Meskheti region. During the 12th century it became a town. In the 13th century Mongols destroyed it and until the 15th century it lost its power. In the 15th century it was owned by Meskheti landlords from Jakeli family. In the 16th century the southern region of Georgia was invaded by Turks. During next 300 years they have owned Khertvisi too. At the end of the 19th century Georgian and Russian army returned the lost territories and Khertvisi became the military base for Russian and Georgian troops. Khertvisi fortress is situated on the high rocky hill in the narrow canyon at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Paravani Rivers.

Sankt Georg / Saint George / წმინდა გიორგი (Tiflis / Tbilissi, Tbilisi)

Tbilisi, Freedom Square / Tiflis, Freiheitsplatz
Sankt Georg in Georgien: / Saint George in Georgia /

Saint George (c. 275/281 – 23 April 303) was, according to tradition, a Roman soldier from Syria Palaestina and a soldier in the Guard of Diocletian, who is venerated as a Christian martyr. In hagiographySaint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic (Western and Eastern Rites), AnglicanEastern Orthodox, and the Oriental Orthodox churches. He is immortalized in the tale of Saint George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints....
The country of Georgia, where devotions to the saint date back to the fourth century, is not technically named after the saint, but is a well-attested backward derivation of the English name. However, a large number of towns and cities around the world are. Saint George is one of the patron Saints of Georgia; the name Georgia (Sakartvelo in Georgian) is an anglicisation of Gurj, derived from thePersian word for the frightening and heroic people in that territory.[43] However, chronicles describing the land as Georgie or Georgia in French and English, date from the early Middle Ages "because of their special reverence for Saint George",[44] but these accounts have been seen as folk etymology;[citation needed] compare Land of Prester John.
There are exactly 365 Orthodox churches in Georgia named after Saint George according to the number of days in a year. According to myth, St. George was cut into 365 pieces after he fell in battle and every single piece was spread throughout the entire country.[45][46][47] According to another myth, Saint George appeared in person during the Battle of Didgori to support the Georgian victory over the Seldjuk army and the Georgian uprising against Persian rule. Saint George is considered by many Georgians to have special meaning as a symbol of national liberation.[48]

Der heilige Georg (neugriechisch Άγιος Γεώργιος; * im 3. Jahrhundert evtl. in Kappadokien; † 23.

Armenians of Javakheti

More than 90% of the inhabitants of Javakheti (Georgian name) or Djavakhq (Armenian name) are ethnic Armenians. Other than in the capital of Georgia with its large and well integrated minority population of Armenians, it remains to be an interesting question to what extent the State of Georgia will be able to integrate Javakhetian Armenians into Georgian society. The older people often speak no Georgian at all while the young generation learns Georgian as a second language in school.
My short impression is that nowadays economy has become more important to Javakhetians than autonomy. Lukily both governments share the same interest in peaceful solutions and have therefore acted responsibly.

Akhalkalaki: Monument dedicated to the father of the Armenian alphabet Mesrop Mashtots  *361 - † 440

Looking at the sign of a Georgian Police headquarters at Akhalkalaki, I wonder how helpful Georgian and English language (only) inscriptions may seem to the ethnic Armenian population. Armenian still isn't official language.

During the Soviet period, street signs of Akhalkalaki were written in Georgian, Armenian and Russian:
